To be hired as a project manager, you must answer well the questions during the interview that the hiring manager will ask you.
You don’t just have to answer well. You must be flawless in your answers and exude confidence and assurance.
Questions during the project manager interview can be varied. Very often, the hiring manager finds sample project manager interview questions from the Internet, because he does not know your profession well. If you are lucky enough to come across such an interviewer, you just have to read all such articles on the internet and learn them.
Important
The most important condition to succeed in your interview is to have real experience so that your answers can be backed up with confidence. Otherwise, they probably won’t hire you.
I give you questions that are not the classic Project Manager Job Interview Questions from the internet sites. This will enrich your general culture even more.
Have you been involved in a project that was prematurely terminated before the deadline? If not – how would you react to such news communicated by the Project Sponsor of the project?
In complex projects with a long-term plan, there is a significant risk that the project will change its strategy, initiated both by the end customer in the case of external projects and by the sponsor of the project providing the financing in the case of projects’ internal to the organization.
The potential market for a product/service also has a significant risk of changing when project phases are delayed and the project itself loses potential customers.
Decisive decisions to terminate a project are thought through in all aspects and are not taken lightly. But since such a decision has been reached, there are probably serious reasons.
I am grateful to have participated in such a complex project, through which I went through quite difficult and at the same time useful professional lessons.
The role of the Project Manager is so extensive that to some extent he should predict such decisions even before they are made so that they should not provoke surprise.
After passing the emotion of a completed project – I would identify together with the team the key reasons for this result and any potential preventive measures in the following similar situations.
Have you allowed yourself to dispute a decision of a key manager – participant in the project? What was the result?
I have had many times to challenge someone’s management decision in high-level key roles in project-related organizations in which I have been involved.
However, I have never done it if I am not convinced of my opinion, which should be well-founded with examples, facts, statistics, and expertise. In this way, I manage to make even the most stubborn alpha leaders as personal managers at least think and experience doubts in their opinion and rethink their final opinion.
Persuasion must happen at the right time, setting, and communication to have a positive effect.
The Project Manager should always strive to have the so-called like-minded people in the project with whom to discuss key topics in advance before strategic meetings with many participants, thus guaranteeing support for the opinion.
Describe a difficult decision of yours – how did you make it and what were the results?
For any manager, it would be difficult to decide to part with a colleague, regardless of whether there is enough indisputable evidence of ineffective results of his activity.
I have had to make similar decisions and it is even more difficult to communicate them to the specific colleague, managing to point out the positive aspects of this decision for both parties.
Tolerating an ineffective colleague puts other team members in a rather demotivating environment, which sooner or later affects the result of their work.
The clear positive feedback on successes and the lack of tolerance for ineffective results is a sure basis for achieving a successful project.

Name a weakness of yours as a manager and what purposeful efforts are you making to overcome it?
Quite often, in my desire to contribute to solving a given case study and challenge in the project, I take on tasks and in this way do not allow teaming members to learn to deal with these situations on their own.
Realizing this weakness of mine, I have created my plan for reactions in such scenarios.
Task delegation and coordination could occur under my control and monitoring but without my direct operational involvement. With my experience and expertise, I could help my colleagues through analogical examples and provocation to find the best solution for them by decomposing complex and complex tasks instead of directly submitting the solution from my side. In this way, I not only create colleagues on whom I can rely more in the future and help them to upgrade their competencies.
